Hi, Alexander here!

I’m a writer based in Washington, D.C. By day, I cover China for a living. By night, I Ramble.

Ramble is a weekly reported column meant to be a sense of where we are. It is impressionistic writing on the everyday, and the currents of memory, mood, and perception that course through it. It is travel writing with some romantic leniency on the definition of “travel.”

Ramble is also a tribute to other writers and styles. Joseph Mitchell. Peter Hessler. Norma Field. My attempts at memories are written in the style of Tobias Wolff’s “Bullet in the Brain” where there is only time for “shadows to lengthen on the grass, time for the tethered dog to bark at the flying ball, time for the boy in right field to smack his sweat-blackened mitt and softly chant, They is, they is, they is.”
